Manipulation tactics
It is important to get to know manipulation tactics, not necessarily to use them, but to protect yourself against them.
One of them is called coercion. it is based on the
fear of harm or threats. Manipulator makes the person being coerced feel as
though the consequences of not doing the action are worse than of actually
doing it.
Next tactic is self-abasement.
Basically, it’s about the manipulators humiliating themselves (for example by
saying how dumb and weak they are) so that the other person will forgive them,
believe them or sometimes, it even can be used to strengthen a relationship.
Another, maybe a bit surprising tactic is silent
treatment. Silence can make people really anxious. If someone refuses to speak,
it can easily make the other person feel the urge to give them something they
want just to break the silence.

I understand these are the tactics used on a personal level, e.g. between colleagues at work, family members or in a relationship?
