Manipulating in advertising

Its no surprise that we come across many different advertisements daily, but did you know that an average person is exposed to about 3,500 of them a day? That’s a lot and considering the fact that all ads use some kind of manipulation makes it kind of scary.  One of the most often used manipulation tactic in advertising is making people think that they are missing out on something, so that they feel the need to buy the certain product. It is important for the companies to get to know what do customers need and why and then they can convince them to buy their product. This is called brand perception and it is really powerful technique in marketing. In advertisements, marketers don’t focus particularly on what they’re selling but on the feeling that comes with it. That’s what really often is the final factor for potential buyers to decide on making the purchase.

  1. I wonder if advertising work similarly in societies which are less affluent and people struggle to obtain even basic goods. Isn't the crude price competition the main strategy then?
