Why are conspiracy theories so popular?
Conspiracy theories are quite popular and there are few reasons behind that. First of all, people don’t like things that they can’t understand, so they look for an explanation. Feeling that they understand something gives them sense of control, calms them. Another reason behind the popularity of conspiracy theories is the fact that people always look for some kind of pattern in everything. For example, humans tend to see faces; on 2001 people saw something looking like a face on Mars and they thought that it was a monumental architecture made by Martians and it turned out those were just ordinary rocks. Summing up, conspiracy theories are so popular, because people always look for an explanation of things that are hard to understand and another reason is that people tend to look for some kind of pattern in everything they see.
You give two reasons, which is fewer than 'a few' in your topic sentence.

The solution would be to stick to one explanation (the need for control) and develop it properly.
